It is often useful to understand someone else's point of view. For example, imagine a race in which you ran your fastest time ever. You feel you ran well because of your own hard work and talent. Would you be surprised if your coach has a somewhat different idea? How might understanding other’s viewpoints affect what you would say to each other after the race? Or imagine you are playing chess with your sister. You've played together often, and you have a good idea of how she will react to each of your moves. How is understand her point of view be helpful? Or imagine that there is a new girl in your class. She is very good-looking. You assume she is going to be very popular. What would she think if you went up to her and said hello?
